T his iconic plaque features the leg endary Foster Mothers of the Human Race painting by the late James Baird, who served as Art Director for Hoard’s Dairyman from 1948 to 1992. The five dairy breeds—Brown Swiss, Jersey, Holstein-Friesian, Ayrshire, and Guernsey—were selected by Baird and editors Bill Knox and Gene Meyer during the 1954 National Dairy Cattle Congress in Waterloo, Iowa, where they handpicked cows that embodied classic breed character. T his particular plaque is an extraordinary piece of dairy history. In 2005, during the final chapter of his life, James Baird signed just 10 plaques at the request of Corey Geiger. These are the only known signed versions of this historic work, making them exceptionally rare. Donated by Corey Geiger
